The greatest and most taught sermon in history is the Sermon on the Mount given by Jesus and recorded in Matt 5-7. This sermon contains some of Jesus's most surprising, puzzling, and profound teachings. He calls us to give up our worrying, to love our enemies, to rejoice when we are persecuted and to be perfect as God is perfect. Why has it been the foundation for Christian discipleship for 2000 years? What does it say about Jesus' desires for his followers and what does it mean for us? In this class we will take a practical approach to understanding the Sermon on the Mount and how we can apply it to our lives, in order that we may live the fullest human experience that God desires for us.
